The Haunting on Telegraph Road

My friend, Cecilia, lives out of town in a very dark and lonely mountainous region.  There's only one house below the hill she lives on.  The whole land is haunted and only those of us who are sensitive enough could feel the presence of "others."  I encountered a woman in her house one night when I slept on her couch but that's a story for another day.  Last  November Cecilia showed me some bones which her dog, Belle, had dug up in her yard.  The bones were not human but appeared to be from a goat.  The house Cecilia lived in had a long history and animals were once raised there so discovering goat bones wasn't a real surprise.  Cecilia suggested that there might have been a body buried under the goat because, according to her, an animal was often buried on top of a murder victim to throw off dogs.  It made sense but I had my suspicions.  I suggested that we dig up her yard and find out.  The thought of finding human remains had thrilled me.

It was at this point when Cecilia started having electrical problems.  For two weeks her lights flickered or burned out.  Even new light bulbs which replaced the old would burn out just as quickly.  She confided in me about the things which were going on.  She doesn't even tell her boyfriend(s) these things.  It was on a Saturday night when I suggested, "Why don't you let me dig up that area tomorrow where Belle found the bones?"  She agreed to that.  I went home shortly there after with the thought of finding human bones which have long been buried.  There was no proof of bones there other than what Belle found but I was still thrilled to excavate her yard.  I crawled into bed at the end of a long day.  As I lay there my stomach because to burn and itch.  I touched my bare flesh and I felt cuts.  I put it off until the morning.  When I woke up the following Sunday I had completely forgot all about it.  I when to the restroom still half asleep scratching my stomach and when I glanced in the mirror I found four deep scratch marks clawed into my flesh.

 "Oh wow!"

I stood there staring at my fresh wounds.  I have no explanation for how those cuts got there.  It was on that day when I started digging with eager anticipation of finding human remains.  I would love to keep the skull for myself but I know that the cops would pry it from my hands claiming that I'm with holding evidence.  I dug for two hours and began loosing hope that I'd ever find anything.  Cecilia had people working on her pipes that day and I was digging dangerously close to a pipe which was connected to the sprinkler system so I had to stop.  I reluctantly placed the dirt back from where it was removed.  It was a few days later when I went back to her house.  When I stepped out of the car I kept my eyes on the trees collected Cecilia's lawn.  There was a heavy presence of something which I hadn't felt at her house before.  As I approached her door I heard the snapping of a twig.  I stood there for a moment and stretched out my instincts to feel the surrounding area.  I had no doubt that I was being watched.  I never mentioned this to Cecilia when I entered her house.

It was two weeks later when she confided in me that she's been feeling someone watching her through the windows.  Even Belle reacted and barked at the dark void of the night air.  Cecilia had been reading books on Wicca which made me cringe and told me that she wanted to exorcize whatever it was that lurked in her yard.  She told me to offer her a prayer but I did more than that.  With my own blood I called the Great Spirit itself on her behalf.  I offered to get rid of this spirit (since I'm the one who woke it from it's slumber) but Cecilia felt confident that she could do it herself so I instructed her in the proper method.  One night she began digging a hole to rebury the bones Belle had dug up.  In doing so she discovered a concrete box.  Was it a tomb?  Was it a safe box?  She didn't know or care.  She found tiles from an old house which once existed in that location.  She didn't want to remove anything.  She buried the bones and offered a pray to this spirit while burning Sage and made a peace offering.  I couldn't have done any better myself.  The house and yard were at peace again and there were no further disturbances.
