This month I wanted to give you a few techniques I've used to develop Astral Sight. First, pick a time of day or night to work on these techniques. Personally I like to work late at night when the air is still and the chatter of the day is silent.
If you've never practiced at visualization, then I recommend that you start with something simple. You can do this sitting or laying down but I prefer to do it in a ritual setting. Begin your meditation to relax your body and silence your mind. Have a small object with you. Once you find yourself in a relaxed state pick up this object and observe it from all angles. Make sure that it doesn't have too many sides or too many colors. A ball would work well. Allow this image to be absorbed into your mind. Once you feel confident that you have the object memorized close your eyes and see the image with your mind. Witness its color and texture. Hold this image for as long as you can without straining your mind. If the image fades just recreate it. Your mind may fight this exorcise. If you're not used to using your imagination then it'll be a struggle at first but the mind can be trained. Practice at this often, and when you feel that you've been able to develop skill at this, then move on to a harder object.
Once you find it easy to visualize object make an attempt to create something from your mind without using an object. This takes a little practice to master but once you find yourself capable of achieving this then you can take the next challenging step. Sit in pitch black darkness and visualize an object with your eyes open. Once you've done this successfully then you can be proud of the fact that you've developed the sight to see spirits and attain visions, even skry if you so chose.
I found it helpful to visualize the images on a single tarot. Often, when I immersed myself in such a task, I received visions, or I'm spoken to by Spirits who relate to the card's energy and correspondences but I'll save that for another day. It's up to you to decide on the method you use to practice this skill. Visualization is something which is required in order for you to have success at working Magick. Most Occultists try to silence the logical side of the brain to allow the intuitive side to express itself. Not me...I like to balance my logic and intuition. I guess it's the non-practicing Libra in me.
