Jesus broke bread during the last supper with his apostles and claimed that this was his body. The wine they drank he claimed was his blood. Catholicism has used this model for holding mass. They break bread and drink wine as the body and blood of Christ, however, this is not symbolic. Most people don't realize that the Church has declared these things to be literal and factual. When the priest takes the bread and consecrates it, he means for it to be the body of Christ and the wine really becomes the blood. This is called Transubstantiation; to turn one matter into another. Many rituals use symbolism to imply certain needs but the Church claims that this is no symbol. Even though the wafer and wine don't change in their context or flavor the fact remains that they believe these things to be the literal body and blood of Christ. This means that the Church is willfully accepting cannibalism and vampirism.
What does their text have to say about this? Surprisingly, God encourages cannibalism. Deuteronomy 28:53 states, "Then you will have to eat the fruit of your belly, the flesh of your sons and your daughters, whom Jehovah your God has given you, because of the tightness and stress with which your enemy will hem you in."
Exodus 24:8 states, "Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, 'This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.'" Is this why Goths favor Churches? Is this why Churches are so gloomy and filled with sorrow? I can find no spirituality in a place like that. God does not dwell there. Maybe this is why Catholicism is falling apart. Jesus seems to have been more of an excuse than an expression of faith.
