Back to Basics

Whether you've been studying the Occult for ten years or are just starting out, it's always good to go back to your roots every once in a while to remember where you came from and know where you're headed. A spiritual path can take you in many different directions and may often be tainted by outside influences which you may have once thought was an inspiration but turned out to be a bump in the road. This month I encourage you to read through the journal you may have been keeping on your thoughts and ideas. Looking back will show your development and reveal areas you may need to improve on. Over twenty-two years of study I've come across many interesting ideas and tested them as a scientist would test his theories. I'm sure that you may have done the same in your own field of work.

Sometimes life can drain you of every interest in the thoughts of Magick and the Occult, especially if you spend too much time in the world around you causing stress from work, school, having to meet dead lines or problems with friends and family. At the beginning of this year I found myself burdened by all of the above. I had to stop just to collect my thoughts. I found it difficult to just sit here and work on this site and to add all the spells and rituals which I intended to post long ago but time had become my enemy. With everything that had been going on in my life I had to come to terms with the things which were most important to me and I always came to the same conclusion; my Magick and spirituality.

Looking back allowed me to see the footprints of the past I left behind and I didn't always make the best decision but I've always lived my life with honour and discipline. When it came to my Magick I've seen how I moved from once believing everything I read about it do beginning a development of my own thoughts and ideas. I'm sure we all go through a period of confusion when all the information we've gathered overwhelms us. Many people give up the struggle when this confusion becomes too unbearable. It's a hump which not everyone is willing to struggle over. Looking back has helped me to define my place in the Occult society. I owe my past experiences for being able to create this site.

If you're just starting on this path then allow me to offer some advice. Study all that you can and once you've come to a certain level of understanding throw it all away and start over. With a fresh start you can build a foundation from your own thoughts and ideas instead of basing your knowledge on what others have written. Over the past few years I've seen how Magick has grown in popularity with the young. I started to feel like an old timer. I've paid my dues and have earned my place in the Occult world although there's still much which needs to be accomplished. How much more will I grow in another twenty-two years? Only time will tell. I just have to be patient.
