Yeah...I know. An odd title for an article, but it hits the nail on the head. This month, I want to talk about unity. It's been spoken of so many times, and even attempts were made at such a monumental task, but the fact is that not everyone will share the same ideas and opinions.
Is unity truly possible? I once read a quote which stated something like, "I tried to have an anarchy rule, but no one would listen." The same is true for unity. To unify all beliefs, we must have a selected group of people willing to stand up in leadership and be the voices for the rest of us. The problem with that is simple. Most people would stand up to claim that position and everyone would want to be heard. Now, whomever was in control of unifying us all, would be the person (or persons) whom all knowledge, wisdom and experience would be expressed in a simple union of their own beliefs, and not yours our mine. This sounds very much like organized religion.
In my opinion, there should not be a union, in the sake of have an organized structure, but instead, a platform for each of us to speak as equals. I've spoken to numerous people who had a large ego, who felt that they were right about everything and should be listened to, otherwise, they'd throw a tantrum. Believe me, it's been done. Whether you're a novice or an experienced man or woman, you should be viewed as an equal, and treat others with the same respect. Many of these people follow the Wiccan Rede or a similar idea, but when it comes to their own beliefs being challenges, then the idea of the Wiccan Rede is often placed aside when they stand up in argument.
I'm not saying that everyone is like this, but I have seen a select number of people, and I would urge you to stay far from them, because they'll end up doing nothing more than harming themselves, as well as you, on a deep emotional level. You can do without that kind of distraction. If unity is to be accomplished at a global level, it must first begin in the home. I've witnessed, and I'm sure you have as well, how people in small numbers have argued about who's belief is right and more spiritual. Here's my question. How can people speak of global unity when they can't even unify amongst their own peers?
