Friday the 13th

It seems to have been an age old belief that Friday the 13th was a black day. Don't walk under a ladder. Don't break a mirror. Don't allow a black cat to cross your path. Is any of this true? Of course not. Much of religious thought is based on superstition. Remember that everything has an origin. To understand where the idea of Friday the 13th came from, we have to take a look at the Knights Templar. The Order of Knights Templar, are probably best known for their unorthodox worship of the God, Baphomet.

The Order of Knights Templar was founded in 1118 AD with the sole intention of protecting pilgrims on the road to Jerusalem. They had become a vastly rich order of knighthood, and King Philip IV despised them for that very reason. King Philip IV (1268-1314), plotted with Pope Clement V (1264-1314) to sieze the wealth and destroy the Order of Knights Templar. By this time, the order had existed short of two hundred years.

The leader of this Order of Knighthood was Jacques de Molai (1243-1314). King Philip IV had sent a letter to de Molai, sending his praises and flattery. In this letter, King Philip invited de Molai to France where (it was offered) that many knights were ready to be under his command.

Out of respect for the King and his Order, he sailed to France. King Philip IV ordered de Molai to have an audience with Pope Clement V, so that plans could be made to reclaim the Holy Land for the one true Church. De Molai was then captured. The whereabouts of de Molai were not known, and he would not be seen for another five years. De Molai and the Knights Templar were charged with numerous false crimes of heresy, which included the worship of false idols (Baphomet).

This would allow King Philip IV and Pope Clement V to destroy the Order of Knights Templar and claim the wealth. The Knights Templar were powerless to stand against such charges, and on Friday, October 13th, the Knights of the Order were arrested and imprisoned. This left a last impression on the people who loved the Order of Knights Templar, and that moment in history would not be forgotten.
